No entries for the 416A, but a bunch for the 416B-8: http://www.thielesmall.com/database.asp

Thats what I was finding John. Every Altec database I could locate does not list the TS for the 416A. What the heck is with that?

I am not the expert here by a long shot but I have been told by many who know, the exact same cone and VC are on the 416-a and the 416-b baskets.
Would this not create the exact same parameters???

I think the big diff in the two versions is in the outer frame edge as in one is designed to be mounted to the front of the baffle while the other is designed for rear mounting. The 416-a is a 15 inch and the b is a 16 inch but both share the same cone and VC.

I found these T/S for the Altec 416A.

Model Number: 416A
Xmax (inch): 0.6
Xmax (mm): 15
Re (ohms): 12.54
Fs (Hz) 21.4
Vas (cu. ft.) 36.8
Qts 0.272
Le 2.5
BI 18.01
Cone Dia 12.7
Cms 0.001124
Measured Nov 1973

These do not appear to be the published Altec values but should be fairly reliable to start with.

Excellent! thanks Don and also Gary and John.

Now I can plug in those with a reasonable amount of confidence. I do need one more to make my pair but now Im getting somewhere.

Looks like the 416A will be a much better match for my regency cabs than the EV SP15's. When I plug in the parameters for that driver in Win ISD it pumps out a cabinet size of just under 8 cu-ft optimal and thats just what I have in the Regencys.

The bass output is much lower also than trying to use the SP15 in the same cabinet without the Klipsch horn loading that is in one of the cabs but incomplete in the other. Pretty much adjust my porting and away I go!

Thanks Again

You both have needs for 416's and might be able to help each other out!

I believe the optimum size for the 416A's is in the range of 8 to 9 cf.

This is based on comments from others who have built cabinets for these drivers.

You can find suggested cabinet recommendations at http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/hug/bbs.html
