I've started a new 4 way project and I am evaluating the mid bass options. I own a pair of both 2123h and 2012h 10" drivers. I plan to use the 2245 on the low end and cross the 10' over to the 2450H mounted on the 2380A horn. I do not have any experience with the 2012. Any recommendations? The application is Music reproduction in a large living room.

Hi Dennis

Interesting dilemma you have. The easy answer is to listen to both in .25 to .5 cu' sealed boxes and choose the one you prefer the sound of. I think you'll find that both present some challenges in crossover design if you are going to pick a point above 800 hz when passively crossing into your 2450 driver.

I just swapped a 2012h into a .625 cu' box that was holding a 2123h ( previously occupied by a le10h-1 ) . The first thing I had to do was to replace the inline 8 ohm resistor with one of 4 ohms - this is a quick fudge to offer some level matching to my le14 woofer. This necessity is caused by either different AC impedances or different sensitivity(s) within the realized operating range ( 40 hz to 750 hz ).

Briefly; I have to say I prefer the 2012. It has a little more apparent lower midbass than the 2123 ( below 300 hz ). The lower mid reminded me a bit more of what one gets from a 2202. It's hard to say if it offers any better resolution - I did think it presented a bit more - but that could be wishful thinking . I need to sit with it for some more time . My midbass is paralled with my woofer so some sonic signatures will get averaged-out by the fact that the le14h covers most of the same range.

Well you know - if you love something - set it free .

It's now on vacation - gone back to its wolf pack of le10s to hang out for a while . :D

You got me. And, so did the syntax... So, are you comparing to the 2123H, or the LE10H-1...? Me thinks it's to the 2123H...

If so, and regardless (how's that for Friday syntax... :rotfl: ), could you provide perspective on the LE10H-1 in that application, or shall we guess it was surpassed by the 2123H (and thus, estwhile...). I've long wondered about stuffing an LE10H into that place.

That's what I was thinking...

Thanks!

Eeeew! No! Don't use LE10H's in place of your 2122H's Bo! What is wrong with your 2122H's?

What are you doing with all the LE10H's Earl?
I have a little wolf pack myself, lol.

Just curious, being a big fan of the 4313B's ;) , what the LE10H sounds like crammed in that little doghouse? <wagging pooch icon inserted here>

Oh Lord - Syntax

You know , I have parts of my brain that are just too multicultural - and they've just never properly learned to speak even one language . How many generations does this take ?

Anyways, I like the le10 woofs as midbass devices. LOUD is 90 db and my home system stuff is just never used that way. I played Hendrix in bands ( decades ago ) so I've put in my time for LOUD ( good thing my amps were usually aimed at others ).

Bo ; try it and listen to it - just don't try to match it up with some big thing like your 2245(s). Afterall, it is a fairly low efficiency transducer.

Hi Giskard

My cache of multiple le10 (a)(h-1) ( & a single Jolson ) were accumulated for K2 inspired mini 10" versions. Then I collected le14 (a & h ) for essentially the same function. Now they all have to learn to play nice together since I presently use 1 of each in my quasi MTM setup . Long term plans for the whole lot aren't determined - likely project speakers as gifts for the rest of the family.

What are your plans for the pack ?

I'm not sure...
Maybe L96/4313B hybrids in 5.1 surround? :hmm:
Maybe just throw them all in the trashcan and uncomplicate my life? :p
