Anyone know where I can get replacement circumferential rubber magnet covers for 2425 & 2445's? I have 1 of each that arrived without them via EBay.

In which case the JBL importer here in the UK is having a laugh then...i was quoted £24 (about $35)

This is slightly parenthetical to the thread, but looking at my 2245H baskets, what is the actual purpose of these bumpers? Is it strictly mechanical protection, or aestetics, or something magnetic? (Exotic iron impregnated rubber?:D ).

Actually, it is strictly for protection and esthetics. It is particularly beneficial for the HF driver hanging off a horn. Many speakers have a support for the driver, usually wood, often a hole that the supports the driver right under the magnet. It is not attached to the driver or horn, so that it can be pulled out through the front baffle. The rubber provides a shock-absorbing effect between the support and the magnet during moving and handling of the cabinet.

A similar support may be used for a woofer as well.

For the 2245H:

http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Discrete%20Sales%20Models/2245H.pdf

Magnet cover, thermoplastic: 59642-01 $5.60 per latest parts list 8.5" inner diameter, magnet thickness not documented per the drawing

For 2445H:

http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Discrete%20Sales%20Models/2445HJ.pdf

Magnet cover, vinyl: 73122 $21.48 per latest parts list 8.5" diameter, 23 mm thick magnet per the drawing

I wouldn't think even with the same I.D. that they would be interchangeable.

The rubber tire for the ferrite magnets is for the protection and appearance of the discreet components only. Those drivers sold in OEM JBL systems don't have the tire. It has nothing to do with supporting the driver...it has everything to do with raw frame components magnets being chipped.

You may be right about the magnet "tire" not being designed for support 'shock absorbing' purposes... that's my idea. But, it definitely does just that. When I build a box for a horn and driver such as the JBL 244x, that's how I support it: a close-fit wooden circular brace mounted inline with the horn and driver at the magnet, with a tire in between. I can't remember offhand if the JBL SR4733A's cabinet and HF driver incorporated the tire in this fashion or not.

I've pulled 4" drivers without tires that had chipped magnets as you described. I think it can't be good for the magnet to be absorbing the full force of hitting a wood brace inside a portable cabinet without the tire between -or with the horn providing all the support either. How many horns have you seen cracked or broken from just such an impact?

mech986 - I typed 2245 in the thread title but meant 2425. I can't seem to access the blproservice pdf's you linked. Do you have the 2425 "bumper" pn or pdf link? Thx for the 2445 one - and, can I order it or is it exclusive to JBL shops?

Far as I know, you should be able to order this part direct from JBL Pro. Ask for Dave Wheeler, great guy and very helpful. If ordering for destination to Canada where you are, I don't know if there is a rule to go through the Canadian distributor or dealers. Best to ask. Some information at:
