Which T/S specs should be considered when deciding if a speaker would work best in a horn loaded or vented box?

Thank you,

Bill

Hi, 2$Bill:

Probably the most influential T/S parameter for selecting drivers for horn loading is Qts. There are other considerations to take along with this parameter, but this one usually grabs the attention of people looking for drivers for horn loading.

Speakers with a Qts rating under .3 are better candidates for horn loading. However, this doesn't mean that these speakers aren't likely candidates for use in a vented box either, as long as proper design pameters are followed.

Are you considering a horn project?

Charley

I have a pair of 2220A's (and 2470s) left over from a past life that used to live in 4560s, but I sold the boxes over a decade ago. I'm trying to decide now what?

I've looked at the curves in Bassbox, and it's not too impressive. I may have to build some 4560s (but really have never seen the curves of 2220A's in 4560s either).

I also have the components left over from my old A7-500s (416-8A, 802-D, 511). May have build new homes for them.

May have to build new home for me after my wife throws me out!

Lost all my money but a,

I think your 2220's would be excellent candidates for horn loading.

That is an excellent driver for horn loading. I love horns for their dynamic sound, both subtle and large scale.

For me, I kind of think you need a fairly big room to get the best from horns though!

But if you have the room, a propely set up horn system can be magic!
