I am helping another friend try the tube route (I have been suggesting that to him for years) And he needs either a couple of Mono Tube Amps or a decent Stereo

As always......TYIA!

Is he using horns?

I have a mint unrestored Dyna SCA 35. 17 wpc and a phono section that will handle mc cartriges as well as MM. Asking $200.

He is using those Magnaplaner thin panel speakers (Yes, I have talked to him about those too). Please send any pics and your contact info to Gromet440@Yahoo.com and I think that will do. Thanks!

This amp has plenty of power for horns, but will be way underpowered with Planars. If he wants to go tube with Planars, it will be very expensive. He should look at QSC PLX or Crown K2 amps if he doesn't want to spend several thousand on high powered tubes.

Thanks for the info.......

Now where can I find those Crowns? Or are they not tube amps?

The QSC PLX and Crown K2 are both SS pro units. Lots of really clean power on the cheap. I use a QSC with horns and it is smooth as can be with no harshness.

OK

Well my friend really wants to try tube power, Especially after hearing the Paragon run with the Fisher tube receiver.

Bee-

Maggies are power hungry litttle girls. They need a good 300-500wpc of clean solid state to do what they do. Translation- that (in tubes) is pricey! You can do it, though. A few of the vintage Audio Research and Conrad Johnsons might be the most econmical way to go- to get the power you need. They made some heavy hitters in the EL34 realm. I've seen several models boasting 100+ wpc. That might do it.

I use solid state for the amp section and a tube preamp. Sounds real good...
