ACK!!

We tried to correct one of the links in post #2 of the "Quick & Dirty Contents" thread, and it self-destructed.

Can that be recovered from the server backup, please, and the correction made?

I've PM'd John and eMailed the Webmaster.

Who is this "we"?

And

I fixed it.

I fixed post #1 too.

Thanks for trying, Giskard, but there were about 50 lines in that post covering the entire "Part II" thread.

"We" is me and a Moderator, as I have no access beyond the original 24 hours when it was posted....

Ah! That stinks big time. I was wondering why only two links.

Always cut and paste anything of importance into notepad (or something similar) as backup while you work on these forums.

If they did a backup they should be able to get the contents of the post back.

*****

Your post #2 must have been pretty recent because I just checked Google for a cached copy and there isn't one.

Both parts were posted the same night.

Hopefully, it can be recovered from the server.

It'll take me most of a day to recreate it, otherwise.

I doubt I have even a printed version of it here, let alone the links.... :(

I just checked Yahoo and MSN also for cached copies. I guess it's up to Ann and John at this point.

Sorry!

O.K., well, thanks for continuing to try helping.

I must have SOMETHING saved here, since I now recall originally working from a printed and hand-edited draft....

Backup is run in the early evening. Whatever you want from backup has to have been in the MySQL database at that point in time.

Clearly we need the date and specific information as to what it was.

Hi, John.

It's this thread:

http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=9901

This post:

http://audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=101376&postcount=2

There were originally about 50 lines with links there. We lost all but a couple of them trying to edit one of the links.

So, if you could restore the 3/15/06 original and edit the one incorrect link (details in PM,) it'll be fixed.

Any backup since 3/15/06 should have the original. It was never otherwise edited since then, except for the recent disasterous attempt....

Ever since 3/15 but before what date?

Zilch

We messed it up on 4/13/06 at about 5:30 PM PDT, looks like....

OK, I'm retrieving all of vBulletin as of:

Apollo # vrestore -i -f /dev/tape/tape9
vrestore: Date of the vdump save-set: Wed Apr 12 18:45:39 2006
vrestore: Save-set source directory : /ah-vBulletin
vrestore: Target directory : /usr/users3
(/) add heritage
(/) add heritage2
(/) extract

You might be amused at:

"To restore a thread, the following tables may be affected:

forum (The threadcount field will need to be incremented.)
attachment
post
posthash
post_parsed
editlog
moderation
moderatorlog
subscribethread
reputation (probably not used)

Do a dump of each table separately (e.g. to postdump, etc)

Obtain list of postids with the threadid from the backup, and use that in the
perl get*.pl programs to pull out relevant insert lines. Some tables are small
enough to just be edited instead.

Beware of binary data in attachments, need to use the getattachment.pl program.

In that program, you'll be using a list of relevant attachmentids instead of postids.

Lump the outfiles into an sql file with insert statements. Might want to test
on a copy of the live database dumped and loaded into a separate location.

Go in and update the thread count in the forum by hand."

I'll ask Ann to look at it later.

YIKES!

I'll NEVER do it again. I promise.... ;)

[Maybe Ann can tell us what we did wrong?]Anyone who's ever worked on computers can tell you what you did wrong. You didn't save before editing. SOP.

Restored! The link is fixed too.

Well backup does work (within the constraint that the data be present when it is backed up) which is usually a relief to find out.

WOO HOO! :bouncy:

Thanks Ann and John!!!

There's actually 61 links there.

Reconstructing it would have been, well, lets just say: :banghead: :biting:  :(

Now, we're just :coolness:, instead!

G'Day John,
I know I am a little late, but some one using "vrestore" brings back ... oh well..

It is "last orders for Alpha's" end this Oct. 2006 :(

Will you be moving on?

Regards Scott

Suppose I'll get another 1280 when no one wants them.
