Morning all...

After reading the sub thread, I will finally get around to asking advice myself. I am going to begin the quest for a HT sub. I really do not need it for stereo sound as my front channels are L100t3's. I listen to stereo over 95% of the time, but on the rare occasions that we watch movies it would be nice to have the additional X.1 channel (the sub). I have been looking at used PB10's, but could be open to other options. Since I do not plan on using the HT anymore than I do now, I want to spend as little as possible (I know, what else is new...). I may even be open to dare I say it... non JBL... Thanks in advance for your opinions.

P.S. Moderators, feel free to put this thread in the appropriate spot.

You can probably get a PB10 for cheap, and you might get one that works for a while, but I'd avoid it if at all possible. The PB10 is one of those speakers that helped to ruin JBL's reputation in some circles.

The sub itself sounds good, but the amp is prone to problems, like not working at all. Repair is a bear inasmuch as JBL dumped the provider, and I think they even went out of business. As I recall, JBL had to do a ton of warranty work on these. OTOH some owners had good luck, including at least one LH member if I remember correctly.

Currently, it's hard to beat the eBay prices on the S120PII sub from the Studio Series.

It regularly sells for under $300. I've seen it as low as $279 BIN. It's great sub at that price and should do everything you want better than you want.
