How do the Minuet and the L19 compare to each other in sound quality? Is the Minuet really worth four times the cost of the L19's?

Thanks,

Is a Model T worth more that a '71 Pinto?

If you are talking about audio performance, neither will blow you away... if you are looking for eventual resale value I suppose the Minuet will hold it's value better... if you like the way one looks or sounds better than the other that would be the reason to choose.

Is the Minuet really worth four times the cost of the L19's?No, not at all. It's just a little loudspeaker, albeit a little JBL loudspeaker.

Some people watch alot of Antique Road Show episodes and become deluded.

"L75 MINUET. An exciting new loudspeaker system of modest dimensions, but with an incredible 'big sound' achieved by the same LE8T and PR8 combination used in the Trimline 54 and L44 speaker systems." :p

9" x 16.5" x 7.75" deep, with no tweeter. Building one of Johnaec's similar size Mini-monitors instead would produce a much more satisfying result, most likely....

The L19 is a better sounding speaker. The Minuet is somewhat of a dissapointment in terms of sonics. Japanese collectors used to pay a lot for the Minuets because they have those lattice grilles and an LE8T stuffed inside of them.

And then one added a little 077 and it was "done".

Still didn't sound as good as an L19/4301. :p

Is that what they do; put 077's on top of them? I always wondered why the Japanese never got that excited about the Lancer 77. If they wanted a small truly vintage JBL that's probably the one to have. They actually sound pretty good.

Yep... a few of our members have them... one even built a pair of exceptional clones. I don't think they'll win any performance awards, but they are so cool looking in that ultra-retro kinda way.

:applaud: Stumbled onto this thread by accident today. Mr Widget, what is the speaker whose pic you attached? Anyone have schematic and a parts breakdown of it?
