Well guys, I need some help.

Years ago, I heard a pair of 4435 in a small bar. It was love at first sight.
I have been looking for a pair of these ever since. One that I could fit into the budget, been married and all. You know what I mean.

A month ago, I found a set. They are complete, except for the woofers. They are all missing. I am now restoring them. And I need help.
The boxes are solid but rough. They have some major scratches and gouges in the finish.
They will soon get a paint job and new veneer. I don’t think that I want to restore them to the original look. I think, I will use a maple veneer on them. But there are a few things that I need.

Here are my questions.

I need 4 LF drivers. I believe the drivers were 2234h.
These are hard to find. What should I use as a substitute if I can’t find any of these.

Also, what was the original paint. It seams to me the it was a semi gloss black. Is this true.

And where could I locate some of the original bleu cloth for the grills. There is a lot of black showing on the front of these and a black cloth may be to much.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

It will be extremely difficult to find a set of 4 used 2234H in good condition since they were only used in the 4435. You can however buy 4 blown 2235Hs or, the easier to find 2225 baskets, and have them reconed as 2234H for around $135 each, a little bit more or less depending on where you live. If you use a different set of woofers in you cabinets you most likely have to modify the cabinet tuning and will most certainly have to modify the crossovers.

2234 kits are still available. Great stuff. Now all I need are some baskets. Anyone know, where I can find 4 of these.

The following cores can be reconed as 2234's. I recommend using SFG ferrite cores instead of alnico cores due to their greater flux stability and lower distortion.

Tim is correct in that 2225H's are quite easy to get hold of and they are my personal choice for 2234H/2235H recones.

I have 2 2205's I can sell you. I'm in Saskatoon so freight won't be large. I might be able to get a couple of 2225's locally to fill out your need for 4 if you strike out in Cowtown.

Take a look at this!!!??? Don't know if it's a typo but the transducer list has them as available for $275 each. A bit much for 4 but that seems a really good price brand new factory fresh.

Rob is right!

I asked JBL Germany two month ago for 2234H I've seen in that list. They said they can get them from Denmark.
So you lucky guys over there should be able to get them from Pro!

The price is alright (IMHO)

How do I know wich ones use the ferrite cores?
Luxmanlover as a couple of 2205 baskets. Can I mismatch them with other models.

If he has 2205H baskets then they will work fine with any of the other SFG ferrite baskets. If he has 2205A baskets then you will want to find two more alnico baskets. In that case K130's or K140's should be easy to find. If you do use alnico's, make sure you get them remagnetized.

the "A"s are alnico , the rest are Ferrite. The drivers Giskard listed are all based on the same frame , so once you swap in a 2235 recone sans the mass ring, you have a 2234.

Oh! BTW Midnight, if you could post the DCR values of all the inductors in your networks that would be great! :)

The DC resistance of the inductors in your network. You would need a decent ohm meter.
