Beside the Beryllium dias I got some samples of aftermarket Ti and Al diaphragms that fit JBL Drivers from XKonkord/Taiwan. Extensive testing will come in 2 weeks.
See 44mm Aluminium
DCR for the 16 Ohm version should be 6.9 ohms but is 6 ohms.
They will correct this.

HI Guido
very very interesting test...............
Actually i am trying on my hartsfield's 3 configurations :
- 2445 with titanium (original)
- 2441 Alnico with aluminium and diamant suspension (original)
- Tad 4001 with Berrylium...(original)
the idea is to find the best speaker and...... the best diaphragm......
At this level of the test, the 4001 is better than 2441, and 2445 far away after 2441.............
On a scale from 1 to 20 (when 20 do not exist !) with a SE 300 B amplifier( Sun Audio) :
2445 : 12/20
2441 : 15/20
TAD 4001 : 18/20
Regards

As soon as I finished my testing you should try the 99mm Be dia in your 2441. Stay JBL :p

Thank's Guido........
2441 + Berrylium was the idea for me.... TAD 4001 costs too much and i want to stay JBL too !...............but TAD are tooooooooo smooth and musical ( guitars, voices...).
I am going to try without filter in the highs (actualy the N 7000 scheme) , with only a cap on the 2205 ( 10 khz and more at 6 db)... hope it shall be better for the phase too.
Warmest regards

Y'all are ignoring JBL's 4" Aquaplas-coated "SL" diaphragms, which are NOT very expensive in comparison to some of these other options....

I ignore nothing Zilch.
I'm very well aware of those dias. I just took the chance to grab a few nicely made aftermarket dias to test them.
Also the Be dias in 2441 seems to be very interesting.
We'll see ;)

I look forward to hear about your discoveries... did you inquire about the purity of the Be diaphragms or their construction techniques?

As I've seen one dia breaking I'm quite sure that it is not only a coating. Also the color match exactly the color from my 2435 dias.
The representant said there is no way to work out dias with pure Be. They use an alloy but didn't tell what are the components. It broke very easy which isn't the case with Al or Ti.

Today I got a new delivery from asia. After I complained about the wrong DCRs and weak VC quality they improved it.
VC is on Kapton now!
Now I have a REAL sustitude for the D8R2421 as the DCR=3.2 Ohms. No other aftermarket dia has the right DCR! OK, color is wrong and should be green
Testing will start this weekend.
Quality looks excellent

OK, the BE's where probably fakes but the Aftermarket D8R2425 and D8R2421 are well made !! Havent found the right DCR around 3.2 ohms with other Aftermarkets.
Especially the Aluminium is a real substitude for the extremely expensive and rare D8R2421

Hi Guido
I have received 2 pairs of 99' diaphragms from Konkord last friday.Unfortunately 2 of them were broken by the freight ( see the pic)....KOnkord seem to be a very serious company, i was called by the DHL Worldwide french agency several hours after a mail to Tiapei about the problem to resolve it !
I am going to try those diaph. in several weeks, because i am at the end of the modifications with my filter and don't want to mix several tests at the same time.( filter tests : simple is beautiful ! i'll post a thread after testing.............)
Apparently it IS Berrylium....fragile like glass, and the same particular colour i have found on my TAD 4001...I understand now why the TAD had a grid to protect the diaphragm.
to be continued.........

Looks like Be to me... coated AL or Ti would not shatter like that. Thanks for the info. Sorry you had to discover this in this manner.:(
Keep us posted...

Sorry Bruno, wrong thread! Please post Be here:
http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=9162&page=3
It makes it a lot easier to follow.
I've seen the same pic when a konkord guy touched one "Be" Dia and shattered it at the frankfurt music fair where I met them.
I'll contine testing also as written in original Be thread.
Yes, Konkord is a serious company. I had problems but everything was solved easily. Take care to the DCR's.
D16R2441 = 8 Ohms
D8R2425/D8R2421 = 3,2 Ohms!!!
Please check. Please check also what VC former you have. Kapton? Nomex?
