Hello JBL specialists,

I've bought one 2245H NIB on ebay. The seller is now offering me a 2nd one in new condition, but this one he says has ribs all the way down to the dust cap. AFAIK the ribs always stop about an inch or so short of the cap.
Does anyone know whether JBL has ever produced such a version of the 2245h or the recone kit, or am I looking at a non-genuine reconed 2245H.
He wants USD340 for it, same as the 1st one.
Sorry, no images available.

Thanks in advance for any info. I have to make up my mind fast.
Thomas

AFAIK, there were only two different versions of the 2245 kit... one of which the ribs went down to about 1" from the dustcap, and one where the ribs stopped about 2" above the dustcap. None with ribs all the way down to the cap, from what I've seen.

Here's an old thread, that includes pictures and descriptions of both:

Gordon.

Remember to check the size of the dustcap in relationship to the depth of the ribs. A bigger dustcap will make it look like the ribs reach all the way down. Might suggest a prior recone with new cap.

Better in some ways to ask how many ribs and how much distance between any two ribs peaks or valleys.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bart

Terribly sorry to be so late to this, but this was only on my home pc.

This pic is of the 2245H.
Left = original in my 1980's vintage 4345 (I did the resurround). Right = brand new 2245H bought last year.

Everybody, thanks for the help.

Boputnam: nice pictures, thx, this might be exactly what the seller was talking about.
I had the definite impression that the 2245H was not being produced anymore, since jblpro has it on the vintage list, and now you tell me you bought a brand new one only last year!? I'm confused now.

BTW I need a reasonably matched pair, so I declined seller's offer to buy the 2nd one, which means I'm in the market for a matching 2245H, but only when I get the first one (4-6 weeks) will I know exactly what I'm looking for.

Best regards, Thomas

...now you tell me you bought a brand new one only last year!? I'm confused now. Yea, well they were brand-spankin' new - "NIB". Another forum member swapped me for a pair of SUB1500's. I don't know exactly when he purchased them, but it wasn't too very long ago.

Sorry. I was only meaning to differentiate the relative age of the two, and they confirmed Gordon's post.

From what I've experienced as these have broken in, I would ONLY go new.

UMMM, that's a significantly good deal for such a great sub-woofer .

How come the DIYers aren't buying these things by the bushel basket ?

How come the DIYers aren't buying these things by the bushel basket ?'Cause we're using 2242H which is NOT on that price list?

:p

[It's on the available new componets list, tho....]

Because collectively we know more about what is available from JBL than anyone... and most of us didn't know they were still available.

Unfortunately JBL's drivers are not being marketed to the DIY crowd. Some of them come from JBL Consumer as replacement parts, others from JBL Pro as components, and others as replacement parts from JBL Pro... it can be quite confusing. It gets even worse when you factor in the fact that they don't really stock most of these drivers. They are generally built for the various production runs and are available to us when extra drivers are sitting on the shelf after such a run. If we are lucky enough to place an order when there are some drivers waiting to be sold we get them... other times we have to wait months for a new run.

I wonder...

The cone on the right looks like a 2242 cone with a smaller dust cap. Could this be the case?:hmm:

I suspect these are the last of the failures. JBL went through several cone suppliers between Hawley and Mogami and all of them failed miserably. The Mogami cones are quite fine. The 2245H still makes for a very nice home hi-fi subwoofer as well as a 4345 clone.

OK. I'm convinced. No ebay - I want to buy a _new_ pair !
So anyone here (especially anyone well connected) plan to buy some new JBL drivers and want to add a pair of 2245s to the order? An extra $900 in the order means maybe a better deal for the purchaser - and I don't have to deal with the terrible Australian monopoly supplier!

TIA

Hi, Dave...

I don't know, but you might phone JBL Pro directly, and see if they'll ship to you. The cost of shipping these heavy beauties may sum to the cost of your local source.

I'm in Australia, JBL will not ship out of the USA. They make this clear on the website but I have called them anyway. I wouldn't ask for help if I could do it myself and not bother anyone. This may even force me to buy non-JBL!
